How can I detect Glaucoma

Glaucoma does not show any symptoms in the initial stages. The patient feels no pain and the vision also seems normal. How do you tell that the patient is suffering from glaucoma then? What makes it worse is that glaucoma can impact both the eyes, not just one.

If the patients are not treated in time, it can lead to loss of peripheral vision gradually. As more time passes without any treatment, patients may start missing objects that fall towards the side corner of their eyes. They feel as if they are looking into a tunnel. Eventually, the central vision may also deteriorate ultimately leading to complete loss of vision.

can you detect the condition before it gets worse?

Early detection, through regular and complete eye exams, is the key to protecting your vision from damage caused by glaucoma. The first step is to get a detailed clinical evaluation of the eye focussing on the anterior segment which includes the anterior chamber angle depth with Gonioscope along with the assessment of optic nerve & measurement of intraocular pressure.

Get a basic visual field testing to evaluate the peripheral vision and how much of the surrounding area they can see.
